Life moves quickly. I’m so busy. We are all so busy. Are we all so busy that we start to believe that we don’t have the time to stop and enjoy the simple things… even during an activity that is meant for stopping, enjoying, and relaxing, like taking the dogs for a hike! Getting to the finish line has become so habitual that it’s easy to forget that there is so much to simply enjoy while we are moving toward it.
When I take my dogs for a hike, I try to remember to stop and look around. I’m lucky to live near the mountains, so the view is always amazing. I’m surrounded by evergreens, wild flowers, and really big mountains, oh MY! Sugar, my 12 year old yellow lab mix, really loves chasing the little critters that run across the trail. Often, she’ll get into a staring contest with her favorite of the little critters, a lizard. This weekend, we stopped to enjoy the view we were lucky enough to observe nature in action, when one of those lizards caught a bee and ate it.

This year, Colorado has gotten quite a bit of rain, which, surprisingly, I’ve heard a lot of people complain about. I suppose when you’re used to 300 days of sunshine, and you get 30 consecutive days of gray skies, you’d be grumpy too. The upside is how amazing the wildflowers are this year. All the different shapes and colors are truly awe inspiring. Amazing yellows, reds, blues, whites, and purples... and all their varying hues - incredible. Among these little beauties, I found my new favorite flower; a Liatris also known as the Blazing Star. So spiky, yet so soft - a natural balance.

With all the travel I do for work, I am presented with so much opportunity to spot the simple things that make the world so amazing. Even in a big city, when walking around in the cement jungle, there is so much beauty in the way things flow creating a magical rhythm all its own. So tomorrow, at that moment when you’re so overwhelmed by how busy you are, stop. Look around. Take a moment, and take in all the simply amazing things that surround you in that moment!
